Mr. John Bunge: Reflections on the Class of 1967 (Confirmation Class of 1966)
The gathering of the class was an outstanding success in my estimation. The number of attendees was remarkable based upon the size of the class. My remarks to the class that evening were intended to point out some of the remarkable events during the course of the class being at Immanuel.

The class began as the first grade with Mrs. Zimbrick (p.s. we did not have a kindergarten at Immanuel at that time.) That was in 1958. Our family came to Colorado Springs in 1959 so we were not a part of the original class. Remember Colorado Springs in 1959. The population was under 70,000. Circle Drive was a gravel road and the Union Printers Home was the east side of town. The Air Force Academy was just coming to town. We did not yet have the new church and the junior high building so we were crowded in the elementary portion of the school. I remember some of the classes that I had for math in the gym balcony. Pastor Enge was pastor for the years you were here, but we had several assistant pastors along with some colorful vicars during that time.

I remember how crowded your class was during your years together. I remember how there were about 40 in your 5th grade class with Mrs. Engholm. You remember how things were strictly for business in her class. Then in 6th grade you had Mr Geisler. In junior high we moved to the other building when it was contructed in 1962. We cannot forget that day in November of 1963 when it was announced that President Kennedy had been shot and we closed the school day with a special service in the church to take our concerns to the Lord.

Your class was very specil in the junior high. You were the firt group to make up the new hand bell choir under the direction of Mrs. Stahlman. You did an outstanding job to get our hand bell program off to a good beginning.

Also in 1962 the Schlueters joined our staff at Immanuel. In our junior high you had Lois Doerr for social studies and girls p.e., Mr. Schlueter for music and English and literature, Mr. Zimbrick (later Mr. Janetzke) for science and athletics, and myself for math. We remember the plays, operettas, field day, basketball tournments, etc. The banner is still up for the year you won the tournament.

At the end of the 9th grade year we had the conselors from various high schools come to Immanuel and assist you in planning your high school program. Then you went many ways to several different high schools.

We remember you as a very special class with many ties and remembrances along the way. May you continue to remember the "One thing needful."
